Legal Fraternity in Mourning After the Death of a Supreme Court Judge, Hon.Mr. Justice Mohammed Ibrahim passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in the afternoon while receiving treatment at Nairobi hospital. Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed this. He was previously in India before he was flown back to Kenya.

He was born in Kenya in 1956 and died at age 69. was one of the most respected jurists, remembered for his quiet firmness, deep intellect, and unwavering commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Education

He pursued law at the University of Nairobi. Justice Ibrahim pursued legal studies and trained as an advocate, laying a strong academic foundation that shaped his long career in law and public service. His education prepared him for both legal practice and later judicial leadership, where he became known for well-reasoned and balanced judgments. After he graduated, he worked as an advocate in the 1980s.

Mohammed Ibrahim had a distinguished career spanning legal practice and judicial service. He served in various judicial roles before his appointment to the Supreme Court of Kenya. As a Supreme Court judge, he handled key constitutional and electoral cases that helped shape Kenya’s jurisprudence. He was also a Commissioner at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), where he played a role in strengthening judicial independence and accountability. Colleagues often described him as a jurist who combined courage with restraint, always guided by the rule of law and fairness.

Family

He was a family man with a wife and four children.
