Bedsitter House in Mamboleo Costing Ksh 7,500 – Photos: My First Stay in Kisumu

When I moved from Nairobi and came to Kisumu with all my household items, I needed a place to settle immediately. I was with my wife and child, and we had travelled all night and were really exhausted. So, I left the Ena Coach bus stage to meet the real estate agent who had promised to show me the house I had seen on his TikTok account.

I took a motorbike, and when I met the person, I realised he was a conman because he started taking me round and round. I finally gave up on him and started looking for a house by myself. Remember, it was a must for me to get a house on the same day and settle because all my belongings and my family were still at the bus station.

I went to Lolwe, Migosi, and Milimani but could not find a house because the available ones were too expensive. I had only around Ksh 15,000, and for a house, you need to pay both rent and a deposit.

Luckily, I met a guy who took me to Mamboleo and assured me that he had a good vacant bedsitter for around Ksh 7,000. I decided to take the deal.

It was a good room with a spacious compound, and water was available. The houses were only on the ground floor. I then took a matatu because one of the drivers was also a tenant there, and he helped me transport all my things to the house.

The roads near Mamboleo are good, and transport by matatu to town costs only Ksh 50.

Challenges During My Stay in Mamboleo

The Mamboleo area is generally hot. I was sweating profusely while in the house and had to bathe all the time. I would advise anyone moving to the area to avoid single ground-floor houses and look for apartments on upper floors. Even if it is a ground-floor house, make sure it has ceiling boards to reduce the heat.
