One Bedroom Apartments for Rent in Roysambu (Lumumba Drive)

Several apartments along Lumumba Drive consist of 2- and 3-bedroom houses. Most are in good condition, and some have balconies. Bedsitters are few and range from Ksh 8,000.

Type or Class of Most Tenants

Most people who stay in the area are students and young professionals, while a few are families. There are many universities around, including Pan Africa University, which is nearby, and KCA University along Thika Road. Therefore, students from these institutions seek accommodation in the rental apartments around the area.

Security

Security is good, as most of the buildings are gated and have security guards and CCTV cameras. Even past midnight, there are usually people still moving around outside without incidents such as theft or robbery. In places like Githurai, you can’t risk that.

Cost of One-Bedroom Houses

I stayed in Roysambu in 2025 while working as a club photographer at Tessara Bistro, a club along Mirema Drive. I lived in a one-bedroom house where I was paying Ksh 12,000 per month. It was located opposite a famous liquor shop, Spice Liquor Store. The house was spacious and had plenty of water. In addition to the rent, I was paying a water bill of Ksh 1,000.

The building also had a few bedsitters, which cost Ksh 8,500 per month.

During the period I was hunting for a house, I realized that most one-bedroom houses ranged between Ksh 12,000 and Ksh 15,000, depending on the finishing of the building.

Challenges in the Area

I can say the advantages outweigh the drawbacks. The roads inside are not tarmacked; therefore, during the rainy season, they can become muddy.

There are many clubs around the area and liquor stores. Therefore, if you are not disciplined, you can find yourself becoming addicted to alcohol and partying, which can affect you financially. Popular clubs such as Club Syndicate and Alfakher are located along Mirema Drive, just a short distance from several liquor stores.

Many youths also abuse marijuana in the apartments. Therefore, as a parent, you should be cautious about this if your child is a student residing around Lumumba Drive, Roysambu.

Transport

Lumumba Drive is near the main road that connects to Thika Superhighway. The most common means of transport is the Zuri Bus, which has a stage nearby. The fare to Nairobi CBD is only Ksh 60. Besides that, there are Uber and Bolt cars, as well as motorbikes, parked nearby for those who want a quicker means of transport.
