How My Safaricom Fuliza Limit Increased from KSh 300 to KSh 6,200 and What I Learned
Steps to Follow To Increase Your Fuliza Mshwari Limit in Kenya
Increasing your Fuliza M-PESA limit is not such a hard task. Many Kenyans are lured by scammers online who lie to them, mostly in WhatsApp groups, claiming that they can increase their Fuliza limit to over KSh 100,000 within a short period of time. In reality, things do not work that way.
Safaricom has designed an automatic system that collects data on how you use your M-PESA account. It cannot be done manually, as some people think, by paying someone money to increase the limit.
How to Activate Fuliza M-PESA Through Your Phone
- Dial *334# on your phone.
- Choose Loans and Savings (Option 4).
- Select Fuliza M-PESA (Option 2).
- Opt in.
After that, M-Shwari will send you a message confirming that you are now eligible for Fuliza loans.
The loan limit normally starts small, but as time goes on and you maintain good repayment habits, the amount increases.
How My Loan Increased from KSh 300 to KSh 5,200 and Finally to KSh 6,200
At first, when I registered, I was given KSh 300. It was when I was in university, and I did not have much need for money apart from transport and buying food.
When I finished campus, I got a job, and since I started making more transactions- paying bills, electricity, Bolt and Uber rides, sending money to my parents back home, buying food, and many other things, my Fuliza limit was increased to KSh 5,200.

This is the message they sent me:
“Congratulations! Due to your good repayment performance on M-Shwari, your limit has grown to KSh 5,200. Keep borrowing and repaying all your loans on time to see your limit grow even higher!”
I always make sure I pay my loans immediately after receiving my salary, and I have been doing that consistently. In June 2026, M-Shwari again sent me a message:
“Good news! Your M-Shwari limit has grown to KSh 6,200, thanks to your good repayment and savings performance.”

This increase is good, and it will help me because sometimes salaries are delayed, and I can use it to top up the money I have to pay my rent.
What Happens If You Pay Fuliza Late?
Sometimes I have been a victim myself. You can literally go broke and fail to pay your M-Shwari loan. It happened to me when I lost my job. In such cases, customer service providers will start calling you, warning you to pay the loan or risk losing your hard-earned limit.
In my case, I requested a close friend to pay the loan and settle the Fuliza M-Shwari balance. I later took another loan and returned the borrowed money to my friend.
Consequences of Failing to Pay Within 30 Days
- Safaricom may immediately reduce your Fuliza limit to zero shillings.
- You will be charged daily fees on your outstanding balance until it is fully paid.
- Safaricom may take further action and report your default to Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs). This can ruin your credit score and prevent you from getting bank loans and logbook loans.
What Happens If You Throw Away the SIM Card With a Huge Fuliza Loan?
You need to know that when applying for these services, you must be a Kenyan citizen and provide your original ID, meaning Safaricom already has your details.
Therefore, discarding your SIM card and getting another one does not erase your debt. Your Fuliza account remains directly linked to your National ID.
A further consequence is that you may be blocked from registering any new Safaricom, Airtel, or Telkom SIM cards under your ID until the debt is settled.
Is Fuliza M-Shwari Owned by Safaricom?
No. Safaricom operates only as the technology platform. The actual money and banking infrastructure are provided through a partnership with NCBA Bank and KCB Bank.
Fuliza is a three-way joint venture, with Safaricom owning 40%, NCBA Bank owning 40%, and KCB Group owning 20%.
The services are linked because NCBA Bank is a major stakeholder in both services, creating a unified credit relationship.
