10 Richest Politicians in Kenya in 2026: Net Worth, Businesses, and Sources of Wealth

10 Richest Politicians in Kenya in 2026: Net Worth, Businesses, and Sources of Wealth

Politics in Kenya is considered one of the highest-paying careers in the country. Senior politicians earn more than Ksh 1 million per month, while even the lowest-ranking elected leaders, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), earn about Ksh 300,000 monthly. However, corruption remains a major concern, and some politicians have faced accusations of acquiring wealth illegally by diverting money meant for development projects such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for personal gain.

Some politicians have also used their earnings to expand their wealth by investing in highly profitable businesses across the country, including hotels, luxury clubs, real estate, and stock market investments. For example, Ndindi Nyoro owns substantial shares in Kenya Power.

Below is a list of some of the wealthiest politicians in Kenya in 2026.

1. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta comes from one of the wealthiest families in Kenya. He served as the fourth President of Kenya, while his father, Jomo Kenyatta, was the country’s first president after independence. As a result, he inherited substantial wealth from land and family businesses.

His personal net worth is estimated at between Ksh 65 billion and Ksh 80 billion, while the wider Kenyatta family wealth is estimated at more than Ksh 130 billion.

Sources of Wealth

The Kenyatta family owns NCBA Bank and Brookside Dairy, which controls about 60% of Kenya’s formal dairy market. They also own more than 500,000 acres of land spread across Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, and Nairobi, as well as luxury hotels and beach resorts. The family also owns several media outlets, including K24 TV, Kameme FM, and The People Daily newspaper.

2. President William Ruto

President William Ruto ranks among the richest politicians in Kenya, with an estimated net worth of between Ksh 52 billion and Ksh 58 billion. Unlike Uhuru Kenyatta, who inherited vast family wealth, Ruto has consistently branded himself as a self-made hustler who built his fortune from humble beginnings. He often says he started as a chicken seller.

Sources of Wealth

Ruto began as a poultry farmer. His Sugoi-based Koitale Farm has grown into one of the largest and most technologically advanced commercial poultry enterprises in East Africa, supplying millions of eggs and chickens to regional markets.

As President, he also earns a monthly salary of approximately Ksh 1.6 million, in addition to numerous benefits associated with being Head of State.

He also owns residential properties in Nairobi and Nyeri, as well as extensive agricultural land in the Mount Kenya region.
