He was first a fisherman in Homa Bay and later became a Member of Parliament for the Lang’ata Constituency. This journey was made possible through hard work and consistency.
He has taken on several jobs, including working as a radio presenter at Kiss Radio, Radio Maisha, and Hot 96, as well as appearing on national TV stations. Early Life and Background
Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, was born on April 27, 1983, in Homa Bay County, Nyanza. He is a Luo by tribe and grew up in a humble family. His father was a fisherman, while his mother sold fish at the market. Due to his family’s situation, he chose to work hard and remain disciplined in life. He also joined his father in fishing activities to support the family.
Education Journey
Despite the challenges he faced, Jalang’o began his primary education at Homabay Lake Primary School. He was among the top-performing pupils nationally, scoring 442 out of 500 in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Despite this impressive performance, he did not get the chance to join Maseno School, a national school known for top academic performance in Nyanza and Kenya, due to a lack of school fees.
He later joined Bar Kanyango Secondary School, a day and boarding school based in Bondo Constituency. He later transferred to Nyang’oma Secondary School, which had lower school fees and was also located in Bondo.
Due to the many challenges he faced during his studies, he scored a C+ in his KCSE examinations.
After completing secondary school, Jalang’o could not afford to join college and opted to continue with fishing.
Several years later, after establishing himself in the entertainment industry, he enrolled in part-time studies. He studied in the evenings while continuing with his jobs. He pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Development at Daystar University. After his graduation, he was praised by several celebrities, politicians, and members of the public who were impressed by his achievement. This became a motivation to youths across Kenya. At the time, he was hosting a morning show together with Kamene Goro at Kiss FM.
Comedy and Rise to Fame
Jalang’o is not just a comedian but a professional one. From his delivery and the way he composes his statements, his talent is evident. I personally remember, when I was still a teenager, watching his trending video clips titled Omwanda and Obwogo, which were extremely funny and can still be found on YouTube.
He moved to Nairobi in search of a better life, like many others. After failing to secure college fees, he decided to pursue comedy and later landed an acting role on Citizen TV in the popular show Papa Shirandula, which also featured actors such as Awinja and Wilbroda.
He became famous for his courageous, well-composed, and humorous Kiswahili-Luo tone, attracting a large audience. This popularity earned him opportunities to appear in advertisements aired on national TV stations, including KBC Channel 1. He built the brand “Jalang’o” and became well known for wearing a green coat.
He continued to grow in the entertainment industry, featuring in music, TV shows, radio shows, as an MC, and in advertisements.

In the 2022 General Election, Jalang’o vied for the Lang’ata Constituency parliamentary seat under the ODM party led by Raila Odinga and won. He defeated Nixon Korir by a wide margin.
