Oketch Salah is a Kenyan businessman and political figure. He became well known in mid-October 2025 during the period of the passing of former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga, a prominent leader among Kenyans and the Luo community. Some sources claim he is an “adopted son” of the late Odinga. This has raised more questions among netizens and sparked public debate.

HavenKenya has compiled detailed facts about the man in question — Oketch Salah.

Early Life & Background

Oketch Salah hails from the Luo community in Migori County, Kenya, and comes from a wealthy family background. His father, Abdi Salah, was a successful businessman who owned a bakery firm in Migori.

Education

He began his lower education in Migori, but details about his further studies remain unclear.

Relationship with Raila Odinga

Oketch Salah is known to have had a close, personal relationship with the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. Several pictures on social media platforms indicate that some captured them together in an airplane and in a hotel, seated closely. This relationship has been described in some outlets as a mentorship or familial-like bond.

He became more visible publicly during Odinga’s medical treatment in India, where he participated in logistics and accompanied him. On some occasions, he was sent to represent Raila at major events, which increased his public profile.

Following Baba’s illness and, eventually, the son of Ramogi’s passing, Salah’s prominence increased and was sometimes highlighted by high-level engagements. He was seen meeting President William Ruto, ODM leaders, and Mama Ida Odinga.

Is Oketch Salah a Doctor?

Some reports and social media posts describe him as a “personal doctor” to the late Raila Odinga, claiming he helped conduct medical procedures. However, this description has not been independently verified by medical licensing records. No credible profile confirms that he holds a medical qualification, such as an MBChB or MD.

Family — Wife and Children

His family was seen in public during the wedding ceremony of his son, Abdinoor Oketch, and his wife, Isra Ibrahim Hamza, on Saturday, October 25, at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

Several politicians attended the ceremony, including Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

What Winnie Odinga Said About Oketch Salah — Citizen TV Interview (27 January 2026)

During a Tuesday night interview on Citizen TV with Ivonne Okwara, Winnie Odinga (EALA MP and daughter of Raila Odinga) made strong statements questioning Oketch Salah’s claims and credibility.

She rejected Salah’s narrative in which he claimed he was present at her father’s funeral, asserting that what he said was not true and was misleading.

She also questioned his credibility, saying, “I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him,” implying she did not recognize him as a close figure in their family circle.

Winnie remarked that his claims were serious enough to warrant medical or criminal attention, stating, “He should be rushed to either Mathare or the DCI with immediate effect,” referencing either a mental health facility or police investigation.

She reaffirmed that she personally was with her father near the time of his death and dismissed the version of events promoted by Salah as false. Winnie also described her own experience and grief related to her father’s passing, emphasizing the authenticity of her account.

Oketch Salah’s Response

After Winnie Odinga’s remarks, Oketch Salah responded on his social media platforms. He said he chose not to respond immediately out of respect for the late Raila Odinga’s widow, Ida Odinga.

He reaffirmed that he stands by his account of having been with Raila Odinga from the onset of his illness through to his final moments, describing those experiences as “real, painful, and lived.”

He said he would provide clarification in a future interview to address the controversies and allegations.

“I watched last night’s interview on Citizen TV with Ivonne Okwara, where Winnie spoke about me.
Because of the respect I have for Her Excellency the Ambassador, Mama Ida Min Piny from Migori, I chose to remain quiet. That was a deliberate and personal decision.
However, some of what was said needs clarity.
I stand by everything I have said about my last moments with Baba.
Those moments were real, painful, and lived.
I will respond in an interview soon.”
